Before last week it was Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that held the title for strongest press coverage during its launch week (for a 2018 release) with a little over 2,800 activities. Red Dead Redemption 2 had no trouble breezing past this figure scoring just under 5,000.
With the review embargo for the game ending on the Thursday it’s no surprise this day in particular saw the highest count of PR activities – just under 30% in fact. The range in coverage from this point included everything from reviews – of which Red Dead Redemption 2 averaged an amazing 97% – to features and of course video coverage.
While its usually a safe prediction that the week following a game’s launch will see a significant drop in coverage (games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Shadow of the Tomb Raider for example), with Red Dead Redemption 2 that decrease may not be so severe, the game currently tracking – as of Thursday the 1st November – with week 42’s performance. It will be interesting to see how the game fares come Monday.
Meanwhile Fortnite continues its strong and consistent weekly performance seeing an increase in activity of 15% on the previous week. It’s impressive that despite new AAA titles continually coming out over the last two months, Fortnite still manages to remain one of the most talking about games in the industry.
October 23rd marked the first beta period for Bethesda’s Fallout 76 leading to an increase in activity of 240% of the previous week. With numerous other beta dates planned up until the game’s launch it’s safe to assume the game will continue to build this momentum going forwards.
Once the most talked about piece of entertainment when it launched in 2016, Pokemon Go might not have that same dominating level of presence any more but still continues to perform well with new updates continuing to help bolster that. Last week’s Halloween event resulted in the game maintaining its top ten placement with a majority of its coverage tied to the topic.
